Agree 100% with these recommendations. Shameful that these have not already been implemented. Thank you for this worthy endeavor. Robert Morris, USNA ’71.

This is important and essential. Whether or not the administration like to acknowledge it, the academy had always had a lot of racism among its midshipmen and staff. Time to wake up. Class of '11

Thanks for putting this together. Sorry I missed the broader '80 conversation, but have had several of those "tough talks" with classmates and others. I'm a firm believer in the power of personal communications in building understanding and changing hearts. Let me know if there is anything I can do to support this and other initiatives. PROUD of you! Francis Daniel, Class of 1980

I was one of the first seniors the class of 80’ saw on Induction Day. It was a fight for them from day one due to institutional prejudice

My apologies for the grammatical mistakes... hard to fit a novella in the little box... that wasn't meant for my diatribe. :D But, my conviction to this topic has been bottled for a very long time.

Potential Class of 2000 alumnus. What I experienced, I imagine, was milder, by comparison to former classes of midshipmen? However, I was treated very questionably at times, and, a witness at times to behavior that had, "plausible deniability." I was 19, and trying to process things that were happening, that often seem to commingled with leadership development? I have to believe some was legitimate, some was the individual leading, and others were just flat racist. Over, 22 years after deciding to leave the academy on my own volition, I can better compose my thoughts and ideas on the experiences I went through at the academy. I straddled multiple fences, gaining insight into different worlds. I empathized with most. The biggest problem I observed was what I would describe as "culture," insensitivity. By culture, I include the female perspective. In the end, I agree that it is a conversation that needs to happen... like the many lectures we received during plebe year. Closeness and conflict go together... but, sometimes, the motivation for that conflict, can be worst than the conflict!? This is very tough "nut," to crack... given all of the different superstitions, stereotypes, biases and perspectives... but, I signed to show support for this "elephant in the room," that needs to be re-engaged permanently.
