Move Georgia Brown Elementary to the 17th Street Campus

It is moving either way. They don't have the funds to rebuild GB big enough to accommodate our numbers at 36th street. This is a petition to ask the board to move GB directly to 17th Street, rather than making us move to the temporary campus first, then years later move to 17th Street.

This petition makes the most fiscal and logical sense. We know the fiscal reasons why this makes the most sense, but the physical environment of the temporary campus is not set up to accommodate Georgia Brown’s large school population of 650 and it’s thriving dual immersion program. Rotating multiple classrooms to recesses, lunches, library, PE, and their daily ELD classes throughout the day will be chaos and valuable teaching time will be lost. The classrooms are pretty much stacked on top of each other and the space between them will be tight as kids are returning to their classes from recess while other classes are walking out to recess and/or ELD. It will be a constant distraction for the students and teachers in the classrooms, forcing them to keep their doors closed all day long for the entire school year. Yes, being able to leave your classroom door open is a huge deal for teachers and students! In short, dealing with these crowded rotations on a daily basis would be a logistical nightmare. The physical environment and lack of space for our large school is just one of many examples why Georgia Brown should move to the 17th campus instead of the temporary campus. *I taught summer school there at the temp Campus last year with a much smaller population and it would get crowded even then with some of the rotations. And drop off and pickup took quite a long while! Can’t imagine doing that with 650 kids every day!

My granddaughter is just one of the hundreds of children this will affect. Also, as a retired teacher, I think requiring the teachers who have the most materials, due to the need for support materials in both languages, to move twice is a great burden. Please reconsider this decision.

The temporary campus will not be able to accommodate the Georgia Brown student population in a safe manner. So much time and energy will be spent orchestrating having to share a very limited space, time that should be spent on bringing education and joy to the students. It would be a great hardship to our students and families, and it is a hardship that can be avoided.

Logistically and financially, moving GB directly to the 17th campus is the best choice. Why waste money on unnecessary moves and alterations to the temporary campus - use that money towards creating the community school for Speck's students. It will not be safe to have the GB population at the temporary campus.

This makes financial sense to me. The less these students and families have to move around the better.

I agree with other parents: Squeezing 650 students on Flamson campus and spending more on the "temporary campus" Traffic concerns, lack of cafeteria- library - student support facilities etc, money spent on moving around multiple times

It does not make fiscal or logical sense for the district to spend substantial money expanding the temporary campus (which is adequately supporting the currently placed Glen Speck school population) in order to temporarily move the Glen Speck population to a school that is too large for them and has been allocated to Georgia Brown (and requires no additional work to support the Georgia Brown population) until a smaller school is rebuilt, unnecessarily disrupting the education and creating unnecessary stress for students from both schools and wasting tax payer dollars.

I agree to move the school children need a decent school to study

These children should not be ignored or overlooked because of lower income or racial profile. These children are eager to learn and a newer environment would be a plus for them.
