My son is currently going through the diagnosis process, which in itself is like swimming in treacle. Our so called "professional" coordinator admitted even once a diagnosis is given, the NHS has little or no funding for post diagnosis help, therapy or follow up. The whole system is broken, from health care to schools to local authority, and needs to be completely rebuilt from the ground up. These poor children (and their parents/carers) are being left to fend for themselves and struggle on. This limits their chance of developing to their full potential, all because the correct support is not available. This is not fair, and the issue of ASD (and associated conditions) needs to be rapidly pushed up the political agenda. Not putting help in place for these children as early as possible will potentially leave a ticking time bomb for the future, and as they grow into adults any issues they are facing will become much harder to deal with.

Assessments and EHC Plans are essential. If the capacity is not available to meet the needs identified, then the fact that they have been identified shows the need for more capacity.

We're lucky that after a long sole destroying fight we finally got our son into a specialist school, after two failed mainstreams. We had a hell of a time and my son made numerous attempts to take his own life!! Now he is in a specialist provision even the self harm is stopping. His specialist school has literally saved his life!
In this day and age no child should have to suffer because their school provision isn't able to cater to their needs. Nor should parents have to fight to such an extreme for a suitable provision.
More specialist provisions are needed to provide the right care and support that a child or young person with Autism desperately needs.

My son has ASD, in mainstream the school cannot meet his needs so he goes part time! I fear that my child won't have the same opportunities as typical child in school. System is failing our SEN children and drastic changes need to happen.

my son has been left on shelf too now able go college 2days a week ...to do maths eng and music he is a child with autism having to go to a adult world im not happy but theres nothing left for him .

My son is currently out of school since summer holidays because his school constantly exclude and discriminated. No support from professionals...I'm disgusted in this so called support system...Shameful for a 1st world country.

Our Primary school really do try but my boy is still a long way behind, and every year the gap between him and his peers widens. It's very sad and I hope we can change things for the better for our children

7 years I have fought this, been dragged through child protection you name it I have taken blow after blow , I'm still standing , I'm in a legal battle with the LA @ central beds council and I have all the evidence and more , my daughter is 14 and ADHD ASD, dyslexic dyspraxia her level of learning is 6/7 years, they keep ignoring parents and ring fence tax payers money for the Rottweiler lawyers to devour and discredit and high five each other after practically destroying desperate family's , I stand firm with you doing this petition and will always speak up, our children deserve better than this, it's a disgrace and not fit for purpose and well shameful !
