I support Floyd Medical Center's approval to provide open heart surgery. This is extremely needed in our area. This will also give us another choice in choosing other providers that are less expensive. Let us have our choice please.

Unequal access to healthcare is a huge part of systemic racism. If we, as a state, desire change, then we need to begin by creating equal healthcare access for all. The people of northwest Georgia desire better. Governor Kemp, you have the power to create change, and I ask that you do just that.

Redmond has had every opportunity to do community outreach to the different ethnic groups in our service area, but has failed to make a difference in access. Floyd will have the resources and programs to implement improved access and care regarding open heart. I encourage the DPH to allow Floyd to develop an open heart program.

As a recent open heart patient, it would have been so much easier to have my surgery at Floyd where my doctor had performed my heart catherization. The other hospital did a great job working with my physicians but the accommodations at Floyd were superior to the other hospital and would have been more comfortable for my family. Having to go to another hospital also increased my out of pocket expense for the surgery. This change would be great for our community.

Floyd's commitment to support underserved areas of the community with this critical service will fill a great need and improve the quality of life for many in the area. It will also provide lower cost options and prevent those who need open heart surgery from having to seek service farther from their homes due to cost.
