Northwest Georgia Needs More Heart

Governor Kemp, With the closing of several hospitals in the NW Georgia area and parts of Alabama within the last several years, more people are coming to Floyd County for their hospital needs. There is only one hospital that does open heart in this area. Everyone is NW Georgia and parts of Alabama should have a choice as to where they want to have open heart surgery. Everyone regardless of race should have the opportunity to choose. Floyd Medical has always gone beyond expectation with educating the communities they serve. They have had this mission for a very long time so that everyone can have this opportunity with . Please allow Floyd this opportunity to do open heart surgery for everyone at affordable prices. There is a great need for another choice where patients can have open heart surgery in the area that Floyd serves. Floyd also serves a very large part of the African-American population and these people have not been well served by only having one choice in the location where they can have their open heart procedures; might I add that the current single choice (Redmond Regional Medical Center) is also the third highest charging facility in the state of Georgia. The high cost forces people out of the community for these procedures when they could be done closer to home and family. A mere 4 percent of the African American Floyd county resident population who have open heart surgery have it done in Floyd county because of the high cost. Floyd's service population has about 60,000 uninsured and of those about 57,000 are at the level of poverty. Many others have a high deductible insurance or are considered out of network and end up with a bill they cannot pay. With the rising number of people affected by coronary artery disease, this is a serious problem in the community and Floyd wants to be part of the solution. Floyd is a great facility with skilled caregivers. Floyd has been the community hospital since opening their doors in July 1942. Floyd takes their commitment to the community and patient care seriously. Floyd has shown that when given the opportunity, they rise to the top. Patient outcomes can be improved with a more affordable choice closer to home. Give Floyd a well-deserved opportunity to provide open heart procedures to community members in need.

This is a much needed service with the disparities to care. We are a non-profit organization and our facility helps those in need.

Floyd needs more options for the undeserved population.

Floyd Medical Center in Rome, Georgia should be able to complete full open heart procedures and follow up care because they serve a large population in northwest Georgia and people of the region should have choice. The hospital that completes the care for this region now is higher cost and for the most part doesn’t chose to serve lower income or lesser insured individuals in need.

Please support our community and allow us to serve our patients by approving Floyd's request for open heart privileges.

This is a vital service needed for all Floyd and surrounding county citizens. Not just the elite.

I am a heart patient , Also new to the Floyd Community. Coming from NEGMC Ronnie Green Heart Center/ and NE GA Heart Group I was shocked at how expensive testing and care was outside of Floyd with Redmond. I am currently driving over 2 hours to maintain my care at NEGMC. Please consider giving Floyd Medical the deserving opportunity and the community the option to obtain loving care.
