I would love for FMC to have more physicians so we can provide heart surgeries for those who need it.

As the Executive Director of Northwest Georgia Housing Authority where we serve 1400 household, I am please to know that Floyd Medical Center is applying to provide open heart surgery in Rome, Georgia. Many of our residents (65% are African Americans) do not have health insurance, and if, or when there is a need for any of NWGHA's resident to have any type of heart surgery, there is only one hospital in Rome, Georgia, which is a for profit hospital that provides this care. Floyd Medical Center is the only hospital in Floyd County that provides indigent care. Thus, this is the hospital of choice for most if not all of NWGHA's residents and other low-income individuals. NWGHA has a waiting list of 1300 individuals with approximately 300 designated as homeless. NWGHA has three high-rise buildings that are designated for the elderly. These high rise buildings are directly across the street from Floyd Medical Center. I can safely say that NWGHA's support of this most needed (open Heart Surgery) facility is one that many of our residents and other low income homeless individuals can benefit from in this community. Therefore, I wholeheartedly support Floyd Medical Center's efforts and pray that Rome, Georgia will sooner rather than later offer open heart surgery to the indigent population. Northwest Georgia patients deserve a choice in where they receive medical treatment, and should be able to get complete cardiac care (including open heart surgeries) from a healthcare provider they trust. Floyd Medical Center has earned the trust of this community, and should be allowed to work with patients to get the cardiac care they need at an affordable price.

Floyd is my preferred hospital even though I live closer to Redmond. What is wrong with letting the two compete, especially since Redmond is now allowed to have new baby services? Many of Floyd County's poor cannot pay Redmond's prices and so not a lot of them get in for needed heart surgery.

Floyd Hospital has always been a community hospital. They take pride in Community involvement and education. Just as we have stirred the uncertain waters of Covid 19, Floyd was ahead and involved every step of the way. As a Floyd employee of almost 20 years, it has always been diverse and community driven hospital. Floyd hears and see's our community needs, and answers to those in need. Proud to be a part of this organization. Community Strong for all.
