Soil contains helpful bacteria, while water used in hydroponics can contain synthetic chemicals. Our food supply is becoming increasingly contaminated. Those of us who have traditionally relied on organic production can hardly even rely on this anymore to keep us safe. I buy organic because I have Multiple Chemical Sensitivity. I don't want toxic synthetic chemicals in my food!

Organic farming has been in the ground for thousands of years. I say it stays in the ground and in no other way.
No soil means no organic growing. The absence of harmful substances is NOT the definition of organic.

Perhaps there's a compromise where hydroponically grown organic vegetables are simply labeled as such – keep the organic label and just add an indication of being grown hydroponically.

Organic practices protect the soil. Hydroponic "farmers" do nothing to protect soil--they don't even touch it! Hydroponics might be a good way to get tomatoes in January--but at a great energy cost!

We demand the USDA National Organic Program accept the 2010 NOSB recommendation to prohibit soilless hydroponic vegetable production as certified organic. I ask that you immediately institute a moratorium on the organic certification of all new hydroponic acreage until the final rule is issued.

Hydroponic IS NOT Organic. There are to many variables with the largest one being contaminated water. Do not do this, it will pollute/contaminate the Organic Label that has become the gold standard for Organic produce. DO NOT LET THIS HAPPEN!!!!!!!
