We, the undersigned, hereby request that you, as Members of the Anchorage
Assembly, draft and pass an ordnance mandating that the Sullivan Arena, and all
similarly-purposed municipal facilities, must properly and prominently display
both the American flag and the Alaskan flag, throughout the duration of all
sporting events held within that facility.
The Sullivan Arena remains a Municipality of
Anchorage property and asset, as it has since it opened, in 1983. The Municipality of Anchorage, and her
neighboring communities, are heavily populated with United States military
personnel – both current and former.
Pride in our nation’s armed services, as well as those serving in the
Alaska National Guard, is a long-standing tenant of our community.
The Sullivan Arenais a Municipality of Anchorage-owned
facility, built and opened in 1983, to best serve our community. For a government-owned facility, intended for
public use, not to proudly display our American flag, duringall sporting
events, is an absolute travesty, as well as an insult to our military members, veterans, and the Municipality's strong pro-military heritage.
THANK YOU!! It makes me so mad to walk in there and not see our flags flying high and proud for everyone to see. Disrespectful to all our vets in town.
