According to an article in MMAOpinion.com:
"The state of New Mexico is looking to ban mixed martial arts in an amendment proposed by State Senator Tim Jennings (D-32nd District)."
Senator Jennings alludes MMA is just like cock-fighting and that both should be banned. While I think we all can agree that cock-fighting should be outlawed, MMA is a legitimate sport that traces its roots back long before boxing, baseball, football, and other popular sports.
The sport of MMA is now legal in almost 40 U.S. states, including Nevada, California, Florida, New Jersey, and most recently, Pennsylvania.
Sign this petition and we'll show our support for the sport of MMA. We will print and mail this petition to Senator Jennings and other members of the New Mexico state government.
Thanks!

Comparing a disciplined athletic pursuit to illegal animal cruelty remains a fundamental misunderstanding of the sport. We are compiling your responses to demonstrate the professional standards and history that define modern mixed martial arts. This documentation will be presented to state officials to ensure they understand the depth of public opposition to this amendment.

The momentum behind this effort has grown substantially and now accurately reflects the deep respect our community holds for this sport. Your commitment allows us to present a compelling argument to the state government regarding the legitimacy of professional competition.

Senator jennings is way out of line. Cock fighting is illegal for a reason but comparing it to a sanctioned professional sport is just ignorant.

My husband trains and he's the most disciplined person I know. This ban makes zero sense.

Boxing is way more dangerous than mma if you actually look at the head trauma stats. Just another politician trying to stay relevant.

Ridiculous to compare professional athletes to animal fighting. These guys train for years to compete, it is a legit sport.

LEAVE MMA ALONE. People have the right to choose what to watch and what to practice. Stop trying to control everything in NM.
