Well done on creating this petition and standing up for what you believe in! The messages about "healthy" eating are so detrimental sometimes, particularly to those with eating disorders. You should be very proud of yourself for creating this.

Having been hospitalised with anorexia I can safely say that the messages that the media put out about what a healthy diet consists of is ridiculous, the media fails to see that 'healthy' varies from person to person and cannot be generalised in the way they do. I was furious at the idea of 'sugar tax'- how can the government want to tax what, for some people is, a form of medication, for those that are critically underweight and were weeks away from death like I was a high sugar and fat diet is used like a medication, you wouldn't tax chemotherapy so how could you tax sugar? The media needs to stop focusing so much on a 'healthy' lifestyle where healthy means putting restrictions on certain food groups and to be honest need to stop focusing so much on food because it either fuels or creates obsessions with food and restricting. And to be honest it cannot be helpful for those who have binge eating disorders or obesity either, yes it may not make them restrict but it will make them feel even worse knowing how 'unhealthily' they are eating. The media are not as qualified as medical professionals so I believe that the 'diet tips' should be left down to dieticians assigned to each person- if I listened to the media over the top psychologists and dieticians in the country then I sure as hell would not be alive now so leave it down to those to inform you of 'healthy diets' because it's not the same for everyone,. This petition actually means a lot to so many people- people with eating disorders, friends or family of those with, or even anyone who cares about anyone else because if this doesn't stop it can lead so many more people to get some form of eating disorder or depression.

Recovery from an eating disorder is made 110% harder because of the messages about food and dieting and healthy eating continually bombarding us by the media.

I have anorexia nervosa and in my recovery I find it increasingly difficult to have confidence gaining weight when the media goes on and on about obesity! NOT HELPFUL :'(

I agree that the media have a lot to answer for, but we must also look for ways to help treat Anorexia that are more effective and we need to find empirical evidence that shows how and what causes it.

I agree. The media and all their crash diets and comparing celebrity 'bikini bodies' makes lots of teenagers insecure. Thankyou xx

Being a sufferer of orthorexia for two years, I restricted fat and protien and technically only ate plants. I dropped 30 pounds in less than 4 months an my bmi was 15.2. Now I consume healthy whole foods. No carb fat or protien restriction. And I am very happy with this lifestyle AND I'm not obese xx
