An age friendly university is part of a network of universities around the globe that are committed to being more age friendly for their students. As an age friendly university, we hope to recognize the range of educational needs of older adults, promote intergenerational learning, to widen and enhance access to online educational activities and health and wellness programs for older adults and to represent and include the aging community in a more respectful way. With MSU’s own MSU 62 program, we believe this initiative could really benefit MSU.

The administration at Missouri State continues to dodge our emails while pretending that their current programs are enough. It is insulting that they ignore the clear demand for an age-friendly campus that actually respects and serves our older learners.

The momentum behind this initiative shows that the administration can no longer ignore the needs of our older students. Missouri State needs to stop dragging its feet and finally commit to these fundamental changes for our community.

I have taken advantage of a free class per semester. I enjoy that I can satisfy a curiosity with a college course.
As a graduate of SMS/MSU and now a senior citizen taking classes for personal enrichment, I appreciate everything that is done for inclusion.
Intergenerational discussions help us think more critically, be more compassionate, and obtain more insight. We need more unity and less division, of all types, right now!
One of the special joys of teaching at MSU is that I regularly have a senior member in my classes, as I have at present. The contributions of this senior member has always been priceless!
As a 70 year old per course online instructor; I consider myself a 'student of life'! I love having diversity in my virtual classroom; in my experience this creates a richer environment for all students. We learn from each other!

An age friendly university is very important if older adults are to feel welcomed and valued. The MSU 62 program was implemented well before the age friendly university was conceived, but it captures the idea quite nicely. Like the university the Gerontology Program has historically been ahead of the curve. For example, students and faculty in the program were focused on Public Affairs since the inception of the program in 1980. This precedes the PA focus at MSU by more than two decades. If we are to facilitate successful aging among older adults (and for ourselves in the later years) working to have an age friendly university is certainly a step in the right direction.
