The Mission Arts Club in Hackney Wick is in jeopardy, due to a demand for business rates going back nearly 3 years! If you have been to a Mission event or have benefited from it in any way, now is the time to show your support. Hackney Council have instigated court proceedings against the Mission and matters are serious; we NEED to get the Council to waive the rates and give us time to get a re-valuation based on its exclusive use as a not for profit arts club. The members have to back to court in mid February, please show your support.
I you agree with the following statement, please sign below.
“The Mission has been operating as a not for profit arts club for the last two and a half years and provides a valuable service to the local community. I want Hackney Council to reconsider it’s decision to treat it as a business.”
I have been spending my nights digging through archives and old emails to prove exactly how much this space has served our community. Dealing with the council feels like hitting a brick wall but hearing how many of you rely on this club keeps me going when I want to quit. The legal pressure is mounting and we are working hard on our defense so they finally see us for what we really are.

Seeing this kind of energy for the Mission reminds me why I started this fight in the first place. This momentum proves that people value our space as much as I do.

Too many venues closing down already. Need to keep the art scene alive or hackney wick will just be boring luxury flats.
