For several years now, the Kansas City Royals have forced their loyal fans to sit and watch a 100 foot tall Garth Brooks lead them in song. I get it. Boston has "Sweet Caroline" and New York has the grounds crew doing the YMCA. But there is nothing more forced than this "tradition" that seems really random and unnatural. Yes, KC is in the heartland and Garth Brooks once played for the Royals in Spring Training for charity. But this isn't a fun tradition. Most fans share the same sentiment. All you have to do is look around during this awkward ceremony of cheese and see roughly 10% of the fans standing and belting out a song that should only be sung during last call after several refreshments at O'Dowd's. Secondly, there isn't really a set time for this tradition. Sometimes it's during a pitching change, sometimes it's after the fourth inning. There's no continuity. My hope is that the Royals go back to showing Cab Calloway singing "Minnie the Moocher" in Blues Brothers. This was a once great tradition during the 80s and 90s that was loved by all. Sign this petition in hopes that we never have to be subjected to this corny, forced tradition.
