We, the undersigned, petition the Honorable Adrian Fenty, Mayor of Washington, District of Columbia, to implement equalization of services within the District of Columbia. On April 13, 2007, Merita Covington, a beloved member of our community, was struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross Minnesota Avenue, SE. Ms. Covington succumbed to her injuries and died seven (7) days later. Ms. Covington was not the first pedestrian to have died as a result of injuries sustained while attempting to cross Minnesota Avenue, SE. In addition, there have been numerous non-fatal pedestrian accidents along Minnesota Avenue, SE. For more than fifteen (15) years the residents of the Twining and Fort DuPont communities have been requesting traffic calming measures along Minnesota Avenue, SE between Massachusetts Avenue, SE and Pennsylvania Avenue, SE. To date, our requests have been denied. We hereby request:
Stop signs along Minnesota Avenue, SE to slow traffic traveling between East Capitol Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, SE.
Improved markings for crosswalks at each intersection from East Capitol Street to Pennsylvania Avenue, SE.
Improved enforcement of existing traffic laws.
Installation of stationary speed camera along Minnesota Avenue SE from East Capitol Street to Pennsylvania Avenue, SE.
im still reading every story you guys leave in the comments and it just reminds me how dangerous this road has become. we have been waiting on the city for way too long and i am working on getting our concerns in front of the right people again.

i honestly never thought we would see this much movement on this. looking at all these names shows me that so many people are finally tired of the danger on our street.

Just put the signs up. Its not rocket science just slow the traffic down so people can cross the street to get home.

Too many accidents here. My kids walk to school and I worry every single morning. Do something before someone else dies.
