It is terribly sad that the district is handling this issue so poorly. Don't punish everyone on the actions of a few. This is the same class who didn't get to go on the Washington trip in 8th grade. Please tell me how taking away their pep rally solves anything?

As a former MPHS student, class of 2011, my fondest memories of my senior year were those during spirit week and ultimately, pep rally. This is a special time for seniors to come together and enjoy the years they have spent together- growing and learning! It would mean more than you know to them to have this experience. Life after high school does continue but those memories last forever!

Pep rally is a time for students to embrace their hometown heritage, the culture and roots of the hometown, their friendships, and their high school experience. It is a time to celebrate! students should not have this privilege taken away due to the indecency of others before them.

We are one of the smallest districts on the island. Canceling the pep rally over the actions of several students shows both a combination of outright laziness as well as an unwillingness to adapt to the realities of high school. Students are going to drink, get high, make poor decisions. I'm sure this is not news to the administration. However, they would much rather take the easy, minimum work way out by removing the event instead of dealing with the REAL issues EVERY Long Island school faces like competent leaders. I completely believe a huge sense of community is being lost through this ridiculous decision. Keep your voice loud & don't give in. Bring back the rally!

This is the career path you chose, and the job you get paid to do. We are one of the smallest school districts on this island. Figure out a way to make this work instead of giving up and eliminating it completely. Have additional staff/supervision during the event to keep kids safe. Using previous children and their mistakes (that they have already been punished for) is a poor excuse of a reason to end this tradition. It has been threatened to be taken away for years and every year kids were relieved that they got to enjoy this day with their classmates and feel proud of their school. Reinstate pep rally!!!

Pep rally's shouldn't be cancelled indefinitely due to a few individuals behavior. These are memories our children should hold onto forever!

My husband and I are graduates of MP and now both of my children are also. My nieces and nephews are in the district as well and are very actively engaged in extracurricular activities. I feel that taking away their pep rally is a punishment for all. It's not fair to punish the children who continue to make the correct choices daily. Please reconsider this harsh decision.
