I stand behind my child to do this. My son knew one of the children killed in the Florida shooting and it has affected him. How dare any school not allow MS’s to have such rights as the HS’s.

This is an opportunity to have a teaching moment and educate our children on how to advocate for themselves! Just as the high schoolers have a choice whether or not to participate, the middle schoolers should have that choice as well.

We cannot teach kids to be responsible citizens if we prohibit them from taking active rolls and curbing their free speech rights.
Supreme Court decided in 1969 that students retain their rights to free speech within school.

I support the Rye Neck Middle school students, let them walk out with their teachers without any consequences. They should have the same opportunity as the High school students.

If we think middle students are mature enough to handle lock down drills to save their lives they are certainly mature enough to walk out for 17 minutes to make a statement and respect those children who have lost their lives.

Standing up for their own safety and that of other kids will be a great learning and empowering experience for these young adults. We must honor them for their initiative.

This is unfair that this school is threatening to suspend students for sticking up for their lives and others! This could have been there lives lost. Think about that, huh?’
