I'm a LPC counselor and it saddens me that limitations are being placed on us. I just want to serve people who are suffering and can't believe we are denied. Praying this will change, and we are able to do the work we are called to do without limitations.

LPC's are recognized by the State of Michigan as Mental Health Clinicians and should be treated as such.

There is really no justification for BCBS of Michigan to discriminate in this way. Licensed Professional Counselors receive rigorous training and provide valuable service to clients.

It is definitely money driven and BCBS has a huge political stronghold in Michigan. Ironic how BCBS allows LPC's in other states to be on their panels... Why not Michigan.? Politics and money, period...

BCBS must not put up barriers to excellent Mental Health to their subscribers. There is no reason for them to do this except for profit. Very disappointing for more the 2 decades. They should be fined for their denials of their customers.

As a provider and private clinician I am saddened that BCBS does not recognize LPC's or LMFT's; both of which I hold licenses. Those who call for services w BCBS coverage have to be referred out (who are not able to pay out of pocket, even at a reduced fee) but often do not find providers who are able to provide services quickly or as often as they would need/want appointments, thus being putting the mental health of those covered and unable to pay out of pocket at risk or feeling additional helplessness. LPC's are just as qualified in providing good, quality services but are limited in ability to provide counseling/therapy to a large population of people (BCBS customers) due to inability to be paneled w the carrier. In turn, this also limits the options for those needing the services, contributing to the underserved population in the mental health system based on availablity and number of providers.

Echoing many comments here, the training I participated in to achieve my LPC was rigorous, comprehensive, and I continue to learn each year. I work in a rural area where one of the largest employers utilizes BCBS. I am credentialed with other insurers, but it pains me that people who would like to see me cannot use their BCBS coverage and cannot afford to pay out of pocket. It is an exclusionary practice that BCBS does not credential LPC's.

Echoing many comments here, the training I participated in to achieve my LPC was rigorous, comprehensive, and I continue to learn each year. I work in a rural area where one of the largest employers utilizes BCBS. I am credentialed with other insurers, but it pains me that people who would like to see me cannot use their BCBS coverage and cannot afford to pay out of pocket. It is an exclusionary practice that BCBS does not credential LPC's.

In the current state of time where people are needing mental health guidance, it is unfortunate that those who have trained rigorously for the very nature of counseling cannot provide for a the majority. It is my hope others will continue to fight together to make a change. I believe spreading the word to have others sign this petition can and will make a change. LPCs are well qualified to be providers.

There is no excuse for BCBS not to accept LPC's as providers. After all, Social Workers are on their panel and we had our licensure law before them, and they incorporated many parts of our law into their own.

I have BCBS insurance and am an LPC. I am paneled with several insurance companies, but the majority of the calls I get are from BCBS members. 80% of the calls I receive are BCBS members who cannot afford to pay out of pocket. I live and work in a very small town and this unfortunate issue could drive me out of business. Clients want to see ME and they can't because of this unfair and unwarranted exclusion.

I am paneled with several insurance companies, but the majority of the calls I get are from BCBS members. 80% of the calls I receive are BCBS members who cannot afford to pay out of pocket. I live and work in a very small town and this unfortunate issue could drive me out of business. Clients want to see ME and they can't because of this unfair and unwarranted exclusion.
