Deeply disturbing practice which negatively effects society as a whole. I hope this criminal activity is also being investigated by the proper authorities.

It is terrible that even in this era, people who are fighting for what is right are persecuted as wrong doers and in such an awful way - something must be done to help

Dr. Fine is an outstanding researcher as well as important advocate for educational justice. Instead of being attacked, her work should be multiplied and adopted.

The personal attack on Dr. Fine is intended to have a chilling effect on all professionals who go the extra mile to dedicate time and energy to bring ethical attention to our ailing public service sector. More pointedly, it is a diversionary tactic by those in Montclair who are opposed to justice in education. They are using relatively untested waters (privacy standards in e-mail) for reactionary activism. Civil society must respond, thoughtfully, carefully, but quickly.

Michelle is a scholar that has inspired countless (although clearly well over 1000, based on this petition) scholars and activist to see the overt and covert ways that power (i.e., corporate interests) gives voice to privilege, and silences alternative perspectives. Ironically, what we see here in this attack of Michelle is *exactly* the kind of thing that Michelle's work gives us the tools to understand...This bullying is not just about silencing Michelle (although that is clearly one goal), but it is to intimidate all scholar-activists to advocate for an educational system that is not defined by, and does not feed, corporate interests.

If we are ever to approach achieving the loft aims enunciated in every sector of the United States, most especially in education, then we must always defend the right of individuals to promote their arguments non-violently. Even when we vehemently disagree. Our culture has long been and remains one that rewards the deceits of the powerful interests and punishes truth-seekers and whistleblowers. In this we are all diminished and held captive by our own mental chains. Free speech can only prosper among those with liberated minds. Dr. Fine seems only to have exercised her right to think freely.

This is a truly nauseating incident. I hope it will generate maximum publicity to highlight the squalid, self-seeking nature of many corporate actors.

Michelle Fine has raised important issues in her insightful research regarding the education of those who have less than their fair share of society's resources. She is widely respected leader in education and psychology. Personal attacks on her indicate the bankrupcy of her opponents' ideas. As a former student in Montclair's excellent schools, I am particularly saddened by these developments.

Dr. Fein is the highest caliber of scholar. Unprofessional attacks on her simply because of how she believes education should be implemented are appalling and unacceptable.
