Monday,11 April 2011 Antwerp Belgium : Belgian Security Police and Belgian government adminisration  leaders arrested and humiliated an Ethiopian  refugee Shimelis Tsegaye on April 4 when he was sent to Manix place prison out side of Antwerp (Belgium) for interrogation and harassment by 4 security Polices where Shimelis was denied Political refugee status demand . Shmelis Tsegay arrived in Belgium and aske dpoltical asylum  in August 2005 here in Belgium. He is Legally stayed  in Belgium for 7 years . The Belgian Police should knew and ready to realize according to their law The law works for every body equal.

Ethiopian community leaders asked  the police about the arrest of Ethiopian refugee Shimelis but they did not get an immediate answer from the concerned authorities.

On that dayof arrest, arroun 5 oclock 4 Belgian security police officers entered Shimelis's living place and arrested an Ethiopian national refugee shimelis over allegations of , that he was illegal in Belgium , refugee Shimelis was brought to the Belgian prison in Marnix place prison.

The Ethiopian Community leaders  claimed that  Shimelis is not illegal and not involved in any anti-social activities. This is  unjustified arrest and against human Rights..

Ethiopian Community leaders asked the immediate release of Shimelis and asked his  well protection . Following the arrest the Ethiopian community leaders, and some other Ethiopian refugees living in Belgium went to the prison to investigate the reason why   Shimelis was  arrested  by the security  police. The Ethiopian community leaders are elected Ethiopian immigrants  in Belgium and has the responsibility to know the details whenever an Ethiopian immigrant meets with trouble situations.

The Ethiopian Community in Belgium has  right to know the reasons for the arrest of Shimelis  by concerned  authorities. If this kind of arbitrary arrest, and emotional and physical harassment, continues against Ethiopian immigrants and refuggees , how can Ethiopian refugee's survive in Belgium?

Regarding the humiliation by Belgian police officers , We Ethiopian Immigrant sign this i-petition fille and  written complains to international Service Officer of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Europe , Human Right watch , Amnesty International and all Ethiopian communities in the diaspora ,EU , Au,UN ,Belgian government and US government.

Besides, we appeal to the international community and Belgian government to protect Ethiopian Immigrants and refuggees  from police harassment. We Immigrants and Ethiopian refugees especially appeal through the media for an end to police harassment against Ethiopian refugees in Belgium. We ask immediate release of Shimelis Tsegaye ,ask Belgian government to stop collaborating with dictators ,we love Ethiopia ,we want change in Ethiopia ,we love democracy  and we love to be home.

The Belgian authorities are terrified by the growing number of people demanding justice for Shimelis. Silence from the police will not stop this momentum because we are exposing their hypocrisy to the entire world.

This is totally unfair. He has been here for years living a quiet life. Why treat people like criminals just for trying to find safety?

Seen this happen way too many times in Antwerp. The system is broken and treats refugees like garbage. Hope he gets out soon.

Treating people with actual dignity is not that hard. Stop the harassment.
