I the undersigned, hereby add my electronic signature to the People\'s petition calling for the creation of a new rule at Nationwide Universities that will benefit the health of students by requiring a mental health screening* of all incoming students. This screening will be performed by a registered medical doctor and will accompany the physical screening that is currently required of incoming students. *The mental health screening will not be evaluated during the admissions process, and by no means will be basis for discrimination under any circumstances.

Updates

May 6, 2008

I am currently reaching out to university health boards to discuss how these screenings can be implemented effectively. Go to your university's social media page and post a link to this petition to keep the pressure on administration. Email your local representative today and ask them to support mandatory mental health policies for higher education.

May 6, 2008

The momentum behind this mandate for mandatory screenings is proving that students are ready for proactive health support. Post this link on your Facebook page and text three friends right now to keep the pressure on administrators. Email your local representative to demand this change in policy.

My nephew had a breakdown his freshman year. If the school checked this earlier he might still be in class today. Do it.

Good idea. Just hope they actually have the resources to follow up if they find someone who needs help.

Long overdue. The system is broken and students are paying the price.

Too many students are struggling in silence. This would help so much with early detection and getting kids the help they need before things get bad.
