With every Civil Rights issue there have been persons in opposition. Manchester's statement of not opposing HJR-6 because there are people who support it is preposterous. Not everyone wanted interracial marriage to be legalized, but thank goodness people passed the laws despite the fact that there were people who disagreed. I believe Manchester should reconsider its decision and think about what it truly stands for.

I'm a person, NOT a political issue.

I am very disappointed in Manchester's decision to remain neutral on this issue. Change is never made by just sitting back and watching others speak up. I gladly sign this petition!

Civil rights issues are so much bigger than mere politics, and I feel are therefore deserving of our support.

I attended Manchester my first year of undergrad and have since transferred. Needless to say, I used to brag about Manchester's acceptance and promotion of equality and diversity, but now, I'm bragging that I don't attend this school anymore.

It seems obvious to many that homosexuals and heterosexuals should be given the same set of legal and civil rights. This proposed law creates a group of second-class citizens, and certainly does not speak to our better selves.

I am proud to have graduated from an institution that has always demonstrated support for equality among all people. I was incredibly disappointed to hear of the cabinet's inaction on this matter. I urge the university to change its stance and join the ranks of the many other universities in our great state who publicly support equality.

Show the world that MU is moving into the future by opposing all forms of civil discrimination. Neutrality seems to me a form of oppression against a group of people.

I didn't come to Manchester to be neutral.

Neutrality is confirmation of the majority. You've always helped the silenced be heard. Don't stop listening now.

While I do not agree that the motivation of MUs administration was pure greed or cowardice (I do believe there were some good intentions and careful consideration, albeit perhaps too cautious), I feel that MU should speak out against HJR-6 because the outcome of this legislation will affect our campus and our ability to carry out our mission and live up to our values statement. We need to be who we are, proudly. We need to speak for those who are not heard. That is the essence of Manchester University.

Alumnus and Adjunct professor. Although discussion is healthy for many situations, basic human rights is not such an occurence. Support Equality.
