She needs to walk with her class. I would think as a graduate of Ed-Co the school would follow her wishes. I know how hard this can be on people with disabilities I see it daily. It is hard to see people with disabilities have to wait the following year to graduate because you can see they dont have the same relationship with the other class. I have seen this persoanlly and I understand why her family is pushing the issue. She fits in with her class and they have accepted her for who she is. The school should be happy with how much the class has been there for her. She earned the right to walk with her class and Ed-Co should be thankful her family and her want to continue for one more year to continue to work on skills. It is important that she feels comfortable along with her family of their decision. Bottim line people need to be more accepting of others and their wishes. Let her walk with her class. !!!!!!!! I apologize that Ed-Co is making you and your family go through this. I hope everything works out for the right reasons!

I had the chance to work with Megan at camp courageous about 3 years ago. Megan is such a smart, determined, strong woman! I hope this gets fixed and she is able to walk at graduation!!!

Working in this field at Linn-Mar this makes me very upset to hear and read the story. I am from Guttenberg and beings close by Ed-Co this really breaks my heart. I pray this gets passed and I will be having others from Cedar Rapids/Marion signing this as well.

I am from Cedar Rapids and heard about this. I can't believe that a school district can be so heartless. If a school
administrator had a special needs child, just like our Governor needs one then things would be different. For crying out lout let the girl go across the stage with her classmates. We have students that need more credits and can walk across and receive the cover so why not let this student do the same. Our country has a problem we have no empathy for anyone else.

Someone that is aloud to be in a meeting with her and the school and family need to see what her IEP says. My daughter has on it should say something in there from last year what they wanted to do. So If you know her parents and they don't know much about the IEPs send them my name.

That's why they vocational rehabilitation places to help them. There is so many programs out to help her get ready for the real world.Ed-Co is wrong. They can't came the choose for her. That's going against her rights. If her and her parents want her to graduate this year and she has everything done to graduate then they have to let

What "life skills" is she going to learn here at Ed-co if she stays for another year... What she's going to learn is how cruel adults can be towards the disabled. Not math or whatever.

Really? She has already struggled through her young life but with the help and support of her classmates she accomplished to finish, let her walk with her class! Why would a school district not want to help this young adult be prepared for life? She needs the extra year but let her walk with her friends!!!

Sure they deserve the same rights as everyone else but darn it so do the great 4.0 students who work hard who can't even be on the Honor Society because Ed-Co doesn't have one??? Why not?? Cuz it might step on some toes?? Honor Society sure looks good on a college application!!
