As a long haired man employee who may imminently be forced to cut my hair, I think the sexist policing which allow women to keep their long hair and not men are ridiculous and old fashioned and prohibit the staff from a friendly and comfortable working environment.

My 16 years old son who works PT at store #71 was told he needs to cut his hair because it touches his collar. He has been keeping his hair cleaned up as he is growing it out but now has to decide if he wants to stay working for Market Basket or cut off his hair. It seems he doesn’t plan to cut it but also doesn’t plan to quit either so the only assumption to the refusal would be he’d be fired.

Well written! And glad this is addressed! I started work at store 95 part-time only and was sent home by Kevin the front end supervisor because of my “pants” of course I did not go back to me. This was discrimination and a complete joke and he comes across very creepy. He allows girls with spandex, but girls that are dressed, professional, or talk down to. I hope this petition weeds out supervisors (Kevin) with a chip on his shoulder!

Please allow more lenience in the dress code. Some of us would really like to be able to work in this kind of environment and not have to worry about compromising our appearance. I for example would love to work here for job security in my area but prefer having a beard. It also doesn’t help that I struggle with body dysmorphia.

I am an employee at this exact store, and just got asked to shave my face in the bathroom after coming in with a couple of untrimmed hairs. I am 17 and just started growing facial hair. That was the first time i shaved my face, and it wasn’t with my dad, it was in a dirty bathroom wirh other people seeing me shave. It was a very awkward experience and i support this petition entirely.

Having 2 daughters in high school I completely agree with all of this. Let them be who they are. Piercings do not define if a person is capable of being a great employee. Currently they are at store #93 and there are multiple complaints about piercings and just today a supervisor told my daughters friend she couldn’t wear a bandaid to cover her piercing and she would have to go home or take it out. This is totally unacceptable,

as an ex market basket employee I agree. I stopped working because I was sick of wearing masks to cover up my piercings when my other job didn’t care. I also stopped dying my hair to work there :( maybe i’ll come back if they allow piercings ;)
