Seriously, this is one of the few flaws of such a great company. Employees and customers alike would be happier if this petition were granted--after-all, the 1950s have come and gone.

Today is my last day at Market Basket because I was told to dye my hair back from the coral I dyed it not knowing the policy included hair color. I wish I didnt have to, but I stand by my choice.

I just received a job at Market Basket and I too was surprised by the policies. I am a 17 year old male with longer hair, not quite shoulder length, but a few inches from. I am diligent in my grooming patterns and am especially conscious of keeping my hair tidy. Despite the length of my hair coworkers, previous employers, and others have commented on the neatness of my hair. I believe that so long as a hair style is well kept there is no problem with a male having long hair. The same opinion holds true for all other points listed in this petition also. I believe that market basket being the forward thinking company that it is, will allow for employees to be comfortable with themselves.

I have been a long time loyal Market Basket customer and held with the employees during the strike. I feel a move away form 1950's appearance guidelines would not be out of line in th epublic's view. It requires being comfronted with somethign in an everyday, non-intrusive manner for things to be accepted as normal. I've long felt that the standard allowing women to hav elong hair and requiring men to have short hair was sexist in all jobs that cling to it.

I agree with well kept appearances as a dress code, but not the total prohibition of personal expression when you offer only part-time hours.

we are all individuals on this earth...let us exercise our right to be just that. life is too short to deny a person their natural right to manipulate their body, their hair, anything. that is something that should not be dictated by anyone else but your own being. be a company that fully exercises equality and honors individuality.

In this day and age it is reasonable to aloow men to have long hair or beards if they are kept neat and hair can be pulled back in ponytails at work just like women do.
