I personally have piercings & i have conversations with everyday people who are very open minded and its a form of art. I have three other jobs & at all, they are very respectable with uniform & professional but they also allow their workers to be themselves. Work should be somewhere you enjoy being, not somewhere you go to only because u need income for bills.

My market basket in Bedford Newhampshire is telling me that I can no longer take others shifts because I wear a clear nose ring. I don't even wear a metal one, just a clear. I have worked here for two years without being talked to until we got a new manager who has been making things horrible for everyone.

Great place but their policy on men's ear piercings is sexist and they need to update for today's standards.

I worked at market basket from the time I was 15 to when I was 20 and worked all the way through the strike. As a young teen I always felt awkward and uncomfortable when my male supervisors commented on the fabric of my pants, the way I wore my hair or even the "correct fit" of my smock. I remember having to take out a fresh industrial bar piercing because my band aids looked "unacceptable". The dress code is so outdated and now as a shoppper and not an employee I see young teens being forced to alter their appearance in order to conform to the cookie cutter look that MB strives for. The facial hair thing, though it does not effect me as a woman is also ridiculous. One last thing to add aside from the dress code. The rule at MB that I found most annoying was not being allowed to have a water bottle and not being allowed to go get a drink and leave your post. If you're not letting me have a water bottle under my till, you need to let me go get a drink of water every few hours. I often worked 4.5 hour shifts with no break and no water. I once had a cold and tried to keep a water bottle with alka seltzer in it and my boss found it and shamed me in front of the whole check out. MB needs to loosen up.

i shave the day of work and still get harassed to shave. couple of stubbles and my boss goes nuts. #ridiculous
