As a new employee of Market Basket, I was saddened to hear that I cannot dye my hair certain colors, because doing so would deem me "unprofessional". I often like to dye my hair colors like pink or purple, because it helps me with my self-image and boosts my confidence. As a student in high school, I can relate to wanting to experiment with my appearance. With such strict dress codes, us employees are made to feel as if we will not be taken seriously if we present ourselves somewhat differently than what would be deemed "orthodox". We are not robots to your corporation, we are people with our own wants and desires for our outward appearances.

I've worked for Market Basket for 9 years and i can fully agree that the dress code is way too stricken. What is wrong with everyone wearing white polo shirts or colored polo shirts to go with the color of the department you work in and get rid of the dang neckties. We work in a grocery store not in a office building. The company makes plenty of money to provide the employees with collared shirts with the Market Basket logo on them.

I was offered a job and I cannot cut my beard for medical reasons to two ingrown hairs as well as it being a religious preference. I could not take the job at Market Basket do to my preference to wear a beard and even if I use a beard-net to work in the deli it would not be acceptable for them

I cannot say how much I agree with this. My son works in the kitchen at MB and the dress code is unbelievable. He’s in front of a hot oven for his entire shift and he has to wear the long sleeve button down shirt with a tie! What cook in the world has to wear a tie in a hot kitchen?? Reform across the board is needed.

As a woman in her later 40s I would like to be able to wear the shoes that my doctor's recommend I wear for my back health. Unfortunately they are a brand of sneeker that does not come in black. My back kills me after a shift.

I’ve worked 9 years here so far and I can honestly say shaving is a hassle and my skin hurts at times because I constantly have to shave since my facial hair grows quick. Can we at least have a neatly trimmed beard and goatee?
