Getting rid of research in mathematics? What quality faculty can you ever attract then? Shall you use that as promo material to prospective students: our faculty 2nd grade, at best.

A university that eschews pure research (cf. also the proposed annihilation of medieval history at Leicester) is not a university at all.

Pure Math is the foundation needed for all technical subjects. The rigor associated with Pure Math benefits students in other subjects

Please reconsider this proposal. Pure mathematics is absolutely essential and foundational to all science.

As an applied mathematician working in the intersection of machine learning and PDEs, my work cannot happen without my colleagues in pure math developing the tools that my applied colleagues and I turn into real-world applications. Further, ceasing pure math research is contrary to the goal of ensuring future social and economic progress.

This seems a short-sighted decision. Mathematics, English and other core subjects like these are needed to sustain the 'applied' subjects of the moment.

Please stop relying on oversimplified corrupt performance metrices. Such oversimplified metrics were and are meant to help _outsiders_ get a glimpse of what is going on in academic research. Any university administration who makes decisions based on those oversimplified metrics prove not to have a good understanding of the nature of academic research.

Please reconsider. Nobody should say that a research field is redundant (especially in 2021).

This is lunacy. No one who knows anything about science or mathematics (or AI) would believe that this was an appropriate proposal for a university.

Other institutions tried this in the 1980s and then fiund they had to reinvest in so called Pure Mathematics to support the appled areas thst they wanted to excel in. The University of Leicester must not be allowedto repeat the same mistakes.

I am a medical researcher. One of our most important collaborators is a pure mathematician. Their unique contribution could not be replicated by anyone else. Do not damage the potential of your university by removing such an important part of it, not just for maths but also for your other departments.
