Pure Mathematics at Leicester is Real Intelligence at Work. Without it, AI will be just A !

Cutting pure math research will lead to inadequate pure math learning by your students, which will then lead to a decline in future data scientists, statisticians, computer scientists, applied mathematicians, epidemiologists, and scientists of all sorts. All of these fields draw from math students. You decision to cut math will have long term negative impacts on your future ranking as a university. Please keep funding pure math research.

Math is THE foundation of Computer Science, Data science, Information Theory, Physics, Engineering and ANY other essential science for the development of our society. Stop this nonsense!

History speaks for itself. Mathematics, although it may seem and mostly is true that it is done for the sake of mathematics, is the building blocks of further studies in most sciences and professional fields. Making all pure mathematics research redundant is like pulling the rug from underneath the scientific and professional world

Pure mathematics is a very immense and great subject for research . So I think , the university should not close to this subject. And as there are many teachers who teaches pure mathematics , so I think this is injustice to them . #pure mathematics#

To quote the title of the book by E.T. Bell "Mathematics: queen and servant of science". Very few good science students will want to go to a university which doesn't have a balanced Mathematics Department.

Deceasing any Department on the name of Innovation is just folly as it sounds.

This is the way the Romans stopped science in Europe for a millennium. The world was lucky that others saved Greek science and built on it.

Pure mathematics is indeed the basis of innovation. If they speak of IA, it is needed to understand fundamentals in mathematics to be able to innovate in IA, as well as in other domains of science

"Quelli che si innamorano della pratica senza scientia sono come nocchieri che entrano in naviglio senza timone o bussola, che mai hanno certezza dove si vadano. Sempre la pratica deve essere edificata sopra la buona teoria,..". "Those who fall in love with practice without scientia are like helmsmen who enter a ship without rudder or compass, who are never certain of where they are going. Practice must always be built upon good theory, …..". Leonardo da Vinci 1498

Every true academic recognises the value of pure math. Infer logically to the people behind this proposal.

University of Leicester has world known mathematicians. Mathematics is important for society, engineering, economics, information technologies, science and even mental health of population.

This is short-sighted and a terrible direction of travel for mathematical education.
