It MUST be the poor decision to take all the reputation of UofL down to the ground. To our shame, we already had similar act of ignorance in Japan. City University of Yokohama spoiled pure math dept under the name of "rationalisation", ordered by then-mayor. This resulted in great loss of reputation of the city university of such a long history. You must never repeat such an act of idiocy.

Leicester University's intended pursuit of those research areas of immediate profit is a clear indication of the incompetence of their executive board regarding the purpose, value, and philosophy of academia.
I would like to better understand the reason behind this decision; it is clear these actions were not taken with the broader interest in furthering human knowledge in mind. Perhaps, however, this is not their intent.

Pure mathematics is fundamental and foundational to many applications, in physics, astrophysics, cosmology, epidemiology, etc etc, as well as extremely worthwhile in its own right. Please retain it at Leicester.
