Mason City School Board Petition

Whereas, the lack of access and transparency of public funds in regards to the district budget by the citizens of Mason City and other communities is insufficient and opens the district up to misuse of funds; and

Whereas, the recent budgetary cuts do not reflect the desires and wishes of the community of Mason City; and

Whereas, the lack of ability to hold individuals accountable due to no job descriptions for leadership; and

Whereas, the leaders of Mason City Community Schools, have taken no accountability for the lack of financial responsibility; and

Whereas, the comprehensive vision or plan to deal with declining enrollment and the lack of consistent funding by the state legislature; and

Whereas, it is the feeling of many citizens, MCCSD leadership has intentionally kept, or negligently misrepresented important financial information from the school board, faculty and citizens of Mason City, for which reason still is not known

NOW, THEREFORE, We, citizens of Mason City, by virtue of Iowa Code 279.8“ The board shall make rules for its own government” do request the following:

1. A line item balance sheets released monthly, with budgeted and unbudgeted expenses. actual expenses per month, published online for easy access by the public.

A job description for each administrator and employee at central office.

Contact information for each school board member which is not linked to superintendent’s email.

School board meetings where they are ran by the president and not de facto by the superintendent. The

superintendent should only talk when a school board member ask he/she a question.

Hiring process and explanation for the project coordinator and communications person at the central admin building.

If these conditions are not met in a satisfactory timeline; We, the citizens of Mason City, do request for the dismissal of the Superintendent and other significant leadership changes to properly reflect the values and goals of the citizens of Mason City.
