Your children will be directly affected by a line item in the White Plains School District’s proposed budget for the upcoming school year 2012-2013.

  • For next year, the proposed budget calls for MAS to increase the average class size to 26.5 students, by reducing the number of 4th Grade classes.

  • This is a huge jump in class size and is currently unprecedented in any of the elementary schools below fifth grade.  As a matter of fact, Church St. & Ridgeway are adding one more fifth grade class, lowering their class size for 5th Grade to no more than 22 students per class.

  • In the new budget proposal, our 4th Grade class will endure the largest class size in the entire district at the elementary level.

PLEASE SIGN THIS PETITION IF YOU ARE IN FAVOR OF ADDING A FIFTH 4TH GRADE TEACHER TO MAS!

April 16, 2012

I have been spending my evenings drafting direct appeals to the board members about the unfair gap between our school and the rest of the district. Watching my child face the prospect of a crowded classroom instead of the support they deserve keeps me focused on this fight.

April 16, 2012

Seeing this level of support for our kids is overwhelming and confirms that I am not the only parent worried about these classroom sizes. We have created real momentum that forces the district to acknowledge that twenty-six students is simply too many for one teacher.

My son is in that grade next year and the class sizes are way to big already. How are they supposed to learn anything with that many kids in one room?

WAY too many kids in one class. Hard to manage and impossible to teach. Needs to be addressed now.

Ridiculous decision. 4th grade is a pivotal year and they need the attention.

The teachers are already overworked and stressed. Adding more kids to these classes is just setting everyone up for failure. Do the right thing.

What happened to putting kids first? Fix the budget and give us that 5th class.
