Marvin D Mathelier is seeking a second term as Area A Councilmember. Area A consists of Egleston Square and Hyde Square, which Marvin considers the melting pot of Jamaica Plain. Marvin has seen first-hand how gentrification has displaced families without the proper means and support needed to stay in the neighborhood they call home. He has seen local small business fail because the rent was too high. As a son of Haitian immigrants and a small business owner in JP, Marvin wants to continue to be a voice and an advocate for all of us so that we may have equal and fair opportunities to be seen, heard, and considered.

Walking through Egleston Square this morning reminded me why I started this path as the son of immigrants who fought to make this place our home. People are telling me their stories about rising rents and the fear of losing their livelihoods, and those conversations are the fuel for this campaign. We have work to do to ensure this neighborhood remains a place for everyone.

Seeing this level of support for our neighborhood validates exactly why I fight so hard for Egleston and Hyde Square. This surge of energy reminds me that we are not just asking for a seat at the table but working together to protect the place we call home.
