I am in favor of same sex marriage, and I believe it is not against the Sikh path. However, I believe making a stance against the SGPC will hurt our ability to serve the world (which includes Punjabis). I believe we can keep dialoging with other Sikh groups and SGPC, and reach an understanding... we are forklifts, and can effect much more change by engaging with the SGPC and other Sikh groups rather than challenging them.

I am signing this petition as a statement to SDI that they are not doing the right thing. However, I am fine with same sex marriages.

Same sex marriage is a right. Marriage performed as Anand Karag in a Gurdwara is a privilege. Everyone has a right to marry who they want, I celebrate that fact. However, as a minister of Sikh Dharma I do not have the right or authority to give allowance to such a vast and significant change to such a fundamental bedrock of a path on which I am only a servant.

Jumping to a decision because it is politically popular is irresponsible if the consequences are not fully understood. Discuss with the wider Sikh sangat. There is no rush. By the way, I support gay marriage in gurdwaras when the time is right.

I believe that love is so big and the love and equality at the heart of Guru Nanak’s teachings to include same sex marriage in Gurdwaras. That being said, I think this is yet another manipulation on the part of a few persons who want money, control and power. As a fellow Sikh put it, “ manipulating the frustration and longing of people who have mostly felt marginalized is a great way to get supporters... even supporters in destruction.” Let’s more strongly pursue diplomatic means.

Waheguru. Since same sex marriage is easy enough for people to perform and live legally in many places in the world, SDI enforcing a mandate, especially at this time, seems distracting from more pressing matters and creating unnecessary division among Sikhs. SDI attempting this mandate is premature and inconsiderate of all of its constituents who are wanting more conscious, harmonious, inclusive interaction with the interwoven Sikh sangat worldwide. More research and understanding is needed into why historically Sikh marriage ceremonies are geared towards merging of the male and female polarities and perhaps a yogic understanding could shed light on a different ceremony needed altogether for same sex couples. Regardless of these opinions, SSSCorp may not be the right board to take on communicating with India. Perhaps a global diplomatic group, sensitive to Indian culture and communication style, of Sikh representatives could be more effective. Waheguru. In Guru’s protection and God’s love we dwell.

SDI already has the most liberal body of Sikh ministers in the world being the go-to place for gay marriage in Sikhi. The homosexual folks who could already get married by any number of "rebel ministers" may be complimented by an official rule change but I would guess many wouldn't want this to threaten the existence of MPA or example given that they can easily get married anyways. In other words, this is more political than it is practical or spiritual. It's a political statement that will have a minimal positive impact on minority communities but will have a maximum impact on the status of MPA/3HO within global Sikh organizations. Waging this political battle could possibly result in the excommunication of 3HO, and again, I don't suppose many of the beneficiaries of this decision would want that.
