I gues I could be called a 4 ¼ year student? Back in 1971, when my class was graduating, I was 3 credits short. Thinking back on it, I can't believe I actually attended the ceremony, but as a volunteer usher. Once everyone was seated and the ceremony began, I wound up sitting and talking with Buzz Ricordan. Not in the gym where the graduation was going on, in his office. Over the years this has been a source of resentment at SUNY and the college administration.

While the college is not truly affected in any way whether the students walk or not, it WILL be something the students will remember for the rest of their lives. It should be a wonderful memory of a momentous occasion. Please let them walk with their class-----the cadets they've toiled alongside for 4 years.

Go back to past policy, look out for the students that pay to go there and are the direct customer of SUNY Maritime.

Need to revert back to previous policy. "Walking" through graduation with your Regimental classmates builds esprit de corps.
No this is outrageous. Maritime is build on standards just like the industry, you didn't make it you didn't make it. Close is not an acceptable answer when talking to a Captain or a Chief so why is it an acceptable answer here at a training school for future mates and engineers.

I share most feelings of everyone who want to walk in the fort in May. It is a day in which you can turn to the people you stepped into the regiment with and say we made it. I am personally use appalled by many of the people in the offices saying "oh you can just walk in january" I don't know about you guys but I don't wish to graduate on the mess deck. I talked to a few of the teachers who sat in on the board when they decided to keep Ms. Carpenters policy and they all said they they voted against it. Maritime has done many an "injustice" over the past few years, but this is just going to far.

this was a terrible idea instituted by Admiral Carpenter as a way of raising standards instead it just leaves people out of what should be one of the happiest moments of their life. Becuase many students ship out or serve in the military after graduation denying them the oppurtunity to walk because they may need one more class or license means these students will NEVER get the chance to participate in a right of commencement !

Additionally, all students are allowed to walk in the next graduation ceremony after they have completed everything, under this rule. While I do not agree one bit with the recent change and think things should go back to the way they used to be, its important to know all of the facts and they way the administration is able to justify this change.

They should not get their degree until they have finished the requirements. Walking in the ceremony and receiving a degree are VERY different.
