Marching Band for PE Credit in Hayward Unified District

Please allow PE credit to be given for High School Marching Band.

Please allow PE credit to be given for High School Marching Band at Mt Eden High School.

These kids work harder than running a lap. I am in full agreement with signing this petition.

Marching band and color guard are physically demanding activities. I think it’s actually more demanding than some PE classes. We should allow students to have more options!

Definitely harder than PE

The amount of physical strength I need for marching percussion SHOULD be my PE credit.

These marching band students jog in the parking lot. I see them doing push ups on the hot pavement. They march for hours on end while carrying heavy instruments. They have some of the most toned arms I have ever seen in my life. Their work is so physically demanding, giving them PE credit shouldn't even be a question.

As an alumni of the MEHS Music Program, and from first hand experience marching, it is no joke. Physically and mentally demanding, as well as consistency and pure focus, this is long overdue. Get it done.

Marching Band is physically demanding and should absolutely satisfy a PE requirement!

Great music program, marching band demands a lot rehearsals of marching, like soldiers under the sun, cold, wind and sometimes rain. Good excersise it should be considered P. E., thanks. Sincerely a former student parent.

Please consider giving these students P.E credit for taking marching band. It takes a lot of conditioning and discipline to have enough stamina to carry heavy instruments in 80/90 degree weather while maintaining their breathing with expectation of giving a fantastic performance. This is not a class that will enable students to skate around and find loopholes out of their conditioning. Running up and down a field requires exercise and giving them the credit would be more than deserved.

this needs to happen, Mr. Cato teaches Physical Education in the most authentic and engaging way.

Please let them have PE credits! Not only marching band and colorguard require physical activity, they also stimulate skills.

The students will get more conditioning and much more of a “Physical Education “ as part of the music and color guard program.... You don’t get to slack off... and you get very physically fit. This is long overdue for ALL OF HAYWARD

Give these kids a break, they deserve PE credits, they work very hard all year round with their music!!!
