As an alumni of Mt. Eden's Instrumental Program I can attest for the effort it takes to be in and participate in the Marching program/color guard. This really requires a military style discipline. It also equires a great amount of demanding physical conditioning very specific to marching band and mental dedication. It's not as simple as picking up an instrument and walking around with your band mates playing music for onlookers to enjoy. You need to develop stamina and discipline under any weather condition whether it's a rainy day or a heatwave; all while minding the alignment and movements of both music and one's body. If playing music wasn't a feat of and within itself, can you imagine the physical and mental strain? Marching band requires you to play memorized music while worry about things like the spacing between you and your neighboring musician, posture, synchronizing your steps with the entire band to various tempos, and not to mention pulling off skilled steps, spins, and moves while holding your instrument up at very specific angles. Everything about marching is very meticulous and if you're anywhere less than perfect in both musical and physical aspects in a competition then good luck getting the scores for victory and success. Stacking a PE class for these kids on top of marching band definitely affects their performance and thus lowers Mt. Eden's chances at success at marching competitions which in my very honest opinion isn't a good look for the program and ultimately the school. Give them PE credit for marching, they really deserve it.

The marching band and color guard program at Mt. Eden is an exceptional program . These students should receive their credit for the hard work they put in after school, summer, and weekends.

I am an alumni of the Mount Eden High School Instrumental Music Program and I believe that current students should receive PE credit credit for their participation in Marching Band and Color Guard. It is a highly active physical activity that warrants the credit and would support students in everyday studies by allowing them to take a wider range of classes.

I have seen and experienced the rigor of the program and without a doubt encourage those in charge to make a decision allowing this to happen. The Marching Band represents Mount Eden everyday at home and away and those students deserves PE credit if anything to make their schedule and day-to-day more possible.

Marching band is a physical sport and has been classified as a sport for years now in California. I've seen first hand physical education courses where students are simply walking or standing in line for their turn. Marching and playing instruments simultaneously is utterly demanding to the physical form and should be granted equal credit.

This program does all the physicallity of a sport and should be treated as such.
