Prof Abdoulaye Bathily is the right candidate to fill the position of the next Chairman of the African Union Commission (AUC). He has been in governments and with opposition parties to governing parties. He has been jailed for opposing those in power . He has experience of UN efforts at conflict resolution in West Africa ( Mali) and Central Africa. He is committed scholar and has the potential to help the AU to be more people-centered.

Professor is a committed to Pan-Africanism and understands better the African people's struggle for self-reliance, unity and progress better than any politician or intellectual I have known. He is the only candidate who can rise above regional, linguistic and religious interests to focus on a Pan-african interest. My own personal bias in favor of his candidacy is that this formidable specialist of history is also a passionate man of culture. It's high time for our leaders to look now at the next stage, beyond regionalism, in the struggle for A united Africa, which requires the vision, know how and humanist understanding of women and men like Professor Bathily.
