Husband & I are recent retirees. DH has lived @same address since '84. We'll move much sooner if these tax increases all go into effect in same time frame. Much cheaper taxes, insurance, etc. in SW VA!

The first option should always be how to cut costs, by either becoming more efficient with the existind dollars or cutting unnecessary expenditures. It's always nice to have every little amenity, but they are not always feasible. It should be what is best the the citizenry as a whole not fringe ideas for small groups

Remember when you overtaxed local businesses? Now you're doing the same thing to the people that live in the city.

Thank you for your comment. The public hearing is the time for the residents to voice their opinions about the proposed budget. That occurred on Monday 4/29. The planning session to review the public hearing results was scheduled for Wednesday 5/1. After the public feedback on the 29th turned out to be 50/50, I created this petition in an attempt to get more voices heard for the 5/1 meeting. The additional planning session scheduled for Monday 5/6 is a direct result of this petition. We must remain involved and vocal. Yes, we need to have specific examples of what we are for or against when communicating with the council however, it's not too late voice your opinion with regards to the proposed tax hikes for FY 2020. That process is now.

As you are aware Manassas has problems related to illegal multifamily dwellings and overcrowding in SFH-based neighborhoods. Recently 3 single family homes in my neighborhood converted garages into living spaces, presumably so that an additional family can move into the SFH. The increased tax burden imposed by the city will make this problem worse.

Not happy with our taxes increasing every year. Remember, Senior Citizens are on fixed income. Cut us some slack. We worked for Manassas in our younger years and played as a productive part of Old Town!!!!!

To everyone signing this petition not to raise taxes, the time to start making your voices known is during the budget cycle. Waiting until now is too late. You also need to review what they are spending our money on and you need specifics to call them out on. Case in point. I was not aware that the city gives out money to local businesses to spruce up their buildings, buys awnings, etc. We even have money to s local downtown church for building repairs. Check the minutes of the last Land Use Committee meeting. The list is in there. This is just one small item in a sea of frivolous spending going on.

Look at what your spending now. I survive on what I need not what I want. Try and do the same.

This spend and tax mentality needs to stop. Manassas is no longer a quaint quiet village. It's overrun with housing developments including too many high rises and multi-family units.

To even think of raising the city tax are a joke. We pay way to much as it is. Our schools are terrible and you are not giving enough to build a new one Jennie Dean who is long overdue. while our schools are failing our streets are even worse and waiting to raise anything for those of us who live in the city doesnt sti very well I'm sure with many of the citizens of Man.

Elston, Wolfe, Sebesky, Davis-Younger -- ALL Democrats! Seems to be the only way they know how to solve a problem is to tax, tax, tax.

Tax rates would be justified only if quality of public schools in Manassas were on par. Public schools are on the bottom end of national ratings and real estate taxes are 2nd in the whole VA. Don't push the long-time residents out!
