delete To Anonymous May 03, 2019 - Yes, your are correct, the site was a former dump/compost site and is a NYS Superfund Program site. The VOM is still awaiting clearance from the DEC. None of which is a secret. However, you are INCORRECT in your research about other dog parks in our area. There are NO DOG PARKS in Larchmont, Mamaroneck or Rye (Playland beach is open to dogs in the off season only and it is not an official dog park). The only dog parks close by are Harrison (only for Harrison residents), New Rochelle (which is expensive if you're not a resident) and Port Chester. Please do not give misinformation, especially anonymously. I have to question why you're even on this petition if you have no intention of bringing your dog to the dog park??

You should be informed about the environmental history of the meadow . I did the research and NY State DEC has the site listed as a state superfund program Classification Code: 2. This classification is assigned to a site at which: the disposal of hazardous waste has been confirmed and the presence of such hazardous waste or its components or breakdown products represents a significant threat to public health or the environment: or hazardous waste disposal has not been confirmed, but the site has been listed on the Federal National Priorities List (NPL). Either way this site is a health hazard. You can actually smell chemicals emanating and there is brown staining in the storm drains. Arsenic was detected at one point among other hazardous samples which will put dogs, wild life and humans at risk. According to my research warning signs are supposed to have been posted that never were. I will not be bringing my dog into such an environment. This was a very toxic dump in the past. Not to mention the ticks, mosquitos and the coyotes that are in there. Upon further research, I found out that there are dog parks in Larchmont, Mamaroneck, Harrison, Rye, and New Rochelle. They are much safer options. I also wonder what the zoning requirements are given it is a residential area surrounded by homes, businesses and the Otter Creek Preserve owned by the Westchester Land Trust. Something everybody should seriously research before bringing your beloved dog there.

In follow up I would like to share some information unfortunately which is extremely negative and everyone should do their due diligence for their pets regarding this issue. Specifically, the Taylors Lane site referenced back in the 50's-70's was a dump! This was not a composite dumping ground it was in fact a dumping ground for toxic materials. It is known throughout the village via long time residents that dumping of engine oil, anti-freeze, refrigerators with freon intact, various car parts and a lot more unhealthy material among other things is in the ground. While the village contends the State has cleaned this up, this remains a very unsafe place as we all know the sensitivity of some of our dogs. Do some research speak to people, take a walk by the area; it is always wet, full of ticks, and the drains filled with filth. Is this why this area is being considered for a dog park? Love my dog to much and not willing to take this risk. Please be safe!...
