TO THE MALIBU CITY COUNCIL: I live in Malibu and care about having music, art and culture present and available in our community, and I oppose the removal of seats in the theatre at the new city hall.
The Malibu City Council will soon vote on whether to remove half the seats in the beautiful, sophisticated 500-seat theatre that is housed in the new city hall building, formerly Malibu Performing Arts Center. Removing the seats will destroy the theatre and render it useless as both a live concert venue and a recording studio. We have a valuable community asset in this theatre and recording studio, paid for with our tax dollars. It would be a crime to let it be needlessly ruined and not take full advantage of what we have by offering a multitude of artistic and cultural events and activities to all members of the Malibu community, as well as generating much-needed revenue for the city. Your signature on this petition is a vote in support of music, art and culture and sends a message to the Malibu City Council about responsible spending and keeping promises.
Don't allow short-sighted actions today create an absence of possibilities for tomorrow. If we do not act and speak now, we as a community will be forever doomed to wonder about, and be reminded of, what we COULD have had. Let your voice be heard.
