Malden City Council - Vote YES to support the creation of a Youth Council in Malden!
Do you value youth voice in our community? Do you think that the voice of Malden’s youth is underrepresented in our local government? If you care about youth voice and participation in our city, please add your name to support the creation of the Malden Youth Council Advisory Committee. Youth councils are a fantastic way to get the youth more involved and is currently running successfully in many cities in Massachusetts including Boston, Cambridge, Worcester, Newton, and Wakefield.
Councillor Karen Colón Hayes will soon be proposing a resolve to create the Malden Youth Council Advisory Committee under the City Council. The Youth Council will be able to initiate and develop projects in collaboration with the City Council and other commissions in respect to the youth’s wants and needs. The board will consist of multiple ward-specific members between the ages of 13 and 20 who will be selected for one-year terms. This resolve needs to achieve a majority vote in the City council in order to pass, so your support would be greatly appreciated!
The Youth Council will serve the community in a multitude of ways. Most young people are unaware of the actions that their local government is taking so this council will provide youth with an opportunity to not only gain awareness, but also participate directly in local government projects. It will also instill leadership qualities and skills through real life experience. This is an essential way to build leaders for the future of our community.

I have been grabbing coffee with friends and students to talk about why this council is so necessary for our future. Seeing the genuine excitement from the kids who want to participate keeps me focused on getting this in front of the City Council.

Seeing this momentum grow reminds me of how much my younger siblings and their classmates have to offer our city if they are just given a seat at the table. This progress proves that our community truly values the perspectives of the next generation.

Our youth voices need to be heard. Let this younger generation speak and bring new ideas to our city
Several years ago my son was able to meet with City Counselors at the high school. It was such a great experience for him. This is a fabulous way to get the younger folks involved in politics!
I think this is a great way to get our youth interested in and involved with government, as well as give them an outlet to voice their concerns.
Youth voices are essential, especially in this era where radical change is rampant and the world is constantly transforming. The input of the next generations should be heard, first and foremost.
Malden's teenagers are bright, creative, and energized. They will be the leaders of tomorrow, but they also have big ideas to help fuel change today. I applaud this initiative.
