In recent years there have been countless crashes at the Dinder crossroads which have caused many injuries, some of them serious, and even a fatality. The Make It Safe campaign is a bid to end the spate of accidents. The crossroads is just outside Wells, where the A371 is joined by the Old Wells Road to Shepton Mallet and The Rookery lane out of Dinder. Among the crashes there reported on by the Journal are a head-on smash with a driver having to be cut out of his car in October, a crash causing a car to catch fire in July, a two-car shunt in April 2006, a collision between a car and a coach in April 2005, and the fatality in September 2004. However, as well as these there are near-misses and minor accidents at the crossroads every week, and we believe it is time this was stopped.

I have been hearing from so many of you who refuse to drive through that junction anymore because the fear of another crash is too real. I am spending my afternoons compiling these accounts to hand directly to the council so they cannot ignore the danger any longer.

Seeing this level of support brings back the memory of that September day so vividly. It feels like we are finally forcing people to acknowledge the danger at the Dinder crossroads that I have lived with for too long. We have the momentum now to demand the changes that could have saved lives.

Used this junction for years and it always scares me. Too many blind spots and people drive way too fast through there. Fix it before someone else gets killed.

WHAT ARE THEY WAITING FOR???? A fatality happened years ago and still nothing changed. Put a roundabout in and stop the carnage.

I avoid this road at all costs. It's a total accident waiting to happen every single day.
