I have lived in Ballard for 12 years and up until this last year have never experienced any safety problems, theft or witnessed any crimes. In the past year my husband was jumped on 24th (a busy street) at 6pm, several items were stolen from our condo garage, and just yesterday we witnessed 2 men snorting some substance in front of their car parked on 22nd & 57th at 4pm in the afternoon. I am dismayed by this, the changes are so dramatic I don't feel I'm living in the same neighborhood anymore.

For 8 months now, drug dealers and homeless have lived in two/three tents near my front door in Fremont. Garbage, feces, drug sales all hours of day and night are present. Police say there is "nothing they can do unless they actually see the drug deal". Have reported to Mayor's Office 4 times with NO response back. HELP US! This is scary and I have lived here over 30 years.

North green lake area needs lots of police involvement as well. Can't believe they are building new school 2 blocks from illicit drug activity, prostitution, and even gun shooting sites and no one is making efforts to clean up the area other than the local residents

My tenant's car in green lake and my girlfriend's car in Tacoma were both broken into in the last few weeks. This needs to stop.

Packages stolen. Drug addicts living next to Fred Meyer - they steal alcohol, shoes, food, blatantly, arrogantly, whatever, whenever, with no consequences. Crazy people raving at my kids on the street. Traffic insane in Fremont - worse than ever. Horrid, horrid condos and rude, incompetent drivers. Garbage everywhere - you pick it up - it's back the next day. Men having sex in the restrooms of Gilman Park and grinning at your children when they come out pulling up their pants. Sick, sick, sick! Police won't do a thing!!! Wasn't like this ten years ago!

I voted for you but between you and Mike OBrien you are ruining the whole flavor of Seattle and allowing the streets to be filled with criminal activity. The police are asking for direction as well. Let me ask you this: what the hell are you guys doing if you aren't keeping us safe?

My next-door neighbor's kitchen door was kicked in, and all of her family jewelry stolen--it's one of four home break-ins within a house of mine. As a single mom I'm alarmed by this rash of break-ins. In addition, I no longer feel safe going for walks in my neighborhood due to transients camping out just 1.5 blocks from my home, and drug dealers lined up in their cars, selling, on the same street. You MUST do something to ensure our safety.

Please solve the homeless problem with a better solution than letting homeless live in their cars???

Additional parking enforcement should also be addressed. These people are using vehicles to hide stolen property and manufacture drugs.

WOW! Very scary. This situation was brought up a year ago at meeting organized by Gina Frank. She also organized clean up days. The City folks in attendance gave lip service. I am so sorry for you and your family that nothing has changed, and in fact sounds worse than ever. I believe if this were happening 100 yards from homes where Murray, O'Brien, O'Toole reside, in a wealthy neighborhood, or an area of high end business this would have been dealt with years ago. Shame on our "leaders".

Been in our house for 10 yrs. over the past 2-3 there has been a constant stream of drugs being dealt 100 yards from our house at Baker park. Our neighbors houses have been broken into, our car has been broken into, 2 prowlers were on our porch at 11pm, I have seen fighting in the street, blatant drug use and screaming in our streets past midnight on a fairly regular basis. I have a 5 and 7 yr old who have been scared sleeping in their own room in their own house on nearly half a dozen nights in the past 3 yrs.

This really is an issue. I have plenty of stories to tell--my own and those I've heard secondhand, especially lately--and have only lived in Ballard for 18 months. Please consider increasing police presence in our neighborhood.

The break-ins are increasing in my Fremont neighborhood. I get the Next Door blog and see the activity, [email protected]
Some of the issues have always stemmed from the squatters in vacant hotels and other buildings on Aurora. Some have been taken down but there are other buildings that have become a haven for criminals.

Something should be done about the crime in our neighborhood.
Otherwise our votes will let our elected officials what we think of them!
