The city needs to stop finding way to build more unused bike lanes and concentrate on the safety of residents. Core principal of our tax $$$. Also it is time to start removing wildlife and rodents from city streets. It is dangerous and disgusting to see raccoons, possums, and rats walking ( not running ) down our city streets.

We insist and demand this city enforce the laws and protect its citizens.

Why has the city not used the enormous increase in tax revenues in the last 5 years to build a local police station - to allow for under 7 minute response time? It appears that the Mayor and city government only wants to spend the increase in revenue from this rapid growth without providing safety and security to its new residents.

Moved here last June from NYC and am shocked and disappointed at the vagrant and criminal element on the streets here.

Our beautiful Magnolia neighborhood is gong to hell and the city isn't doing anything. We were burglarized back in August and nothing seems to be getting any better. Please try and support the people paying taxes and your salary. I am fed up with many of the decisions the city and council have made over the past few years. My property taxes just keep going upbeat see nothing in return. Thank you

It seems to me that the homeless issues have become mixed with people committing crimes. I want to help the homeless but DO NOT want the criminals making our streets unsafe by using the fact that they are also homeless to get away with everything from littering, drug use, murder and all levels of criminal activity in between. Ballard is changing and not for the better. I wanted to move to Ballard for years and finally did in 1999, I can't wait to move out now.

As a single female who has been walking with her dog 2-3 times a day for the last 8 years in Ballard, I have seen dramatic changes in the neighborhood. Unfortunately, I now feel uncomfortable during our strolls. With the short days at this time of year, I’ve realized that the darkness frightens me, I am hyperalert and somewhat paranoid, and our walks no longer offer the relaxation that they once did. I have been accosted on several occasions, from money requests to propositions to rants and vulgarities regarding my person. I have opted to walk past my home and around the block when such events occur outside my home, as I don’t want to be followed. Drug deals, begging, and leers are regular occurrences as we stroll near the retail areas and Ballard Commons. I have been the victim of thefts on my property and regular trespassing and disruption in my yard. The amount of trash in the parks, sidewalks, and street throughout the neighborhood used to be minimal, but now is everywhere, unfortunately contaminated with needles and drug paraphernalia that may be hazardous to those who approach for clean up. The thought of moving is a nightmare to me, but so is not feeling safe. There is no doubt that we need to address the needs of the homeless more effectively. However, I wish that all of us, whether homeless or not, could be more respectful of others and be better citizens and neighbors.

I've come across several discarded hypodermic needles on my dog walks within the past few months. This has been in front of nice, expensive homes in the Ballard area.

Please increase the police patrols in our Crown Hill neighborhood as we are seeing that crime is increasing. Everything from stolen mail to home break-ins. We need your help!!

I have had my car broken into, packages stolen and abandoned cars at the end of our street. We never see police patrols and there is a terrible homeless problem in our neighborhood. I hate feeling threatened in my neighborhood and having to avoid parks and public areas because it is dangerous. Our area is a economically viable area that brings in businesses and is in growth. It seems like the city should care about protecting and serving an area where taxes are paying for services. As the neighborhood changes it could create a situation where people don't want to live and spend money. As a homeowner who pays a lot of taxes this is maddening and frustrating! Help our neighborhood!

The first duty of government is the protection/safety of citizens. Given a city budget of approx $1 billion, what is that being spent on that is more important than blatant, visible and repeated crime. After extensive representations from affected citizens, the city must surely now be deemed to be complicit in the rising crime in our neighborhoods since the problem is known and many obvious and cheap solutions, albeit partial, have not been attempted over an extended period. Multiple citizens have offered time and ideas but the city has not sought to engage them.

it is unacceptable that the vagrants do not have to abide by the same laws as the taxpayers.. Things need to change NOw or there is going to be issues! I guarantee that ignoring us is not going to be the solution.

The lack of police presence in Ballard is very obvious. We used to see a patrol car go down our block a couple of times a week, but for the 6 months or more, I have not any cars in the Loyal Heights area. This needs to be fixed.

As a single person, the safety of my neighborhood is my primary concern! Lack of prompt response from SPD is alarming and adds to my own public safety concerns.
