I know that Ballard has become the sacrificial zone in terms of development (endless building of ugly yet expensive apartment blocks); one would think this increased population would also deserve a little something in terms of response to crime?

I don't think i have EVER seen a routine patrol going down my street. we've had no troubles, which is very lucky considering what's happening all around us. I agree with skip the bike lanes etc, focus on neighborhood safety.

Taking care of crime and infrastructure is far more important than new green paint for bikers and new bike lanes. Spend OUR money wisely and for the benefit of all tax payers.

I have lived in the city of Seattle since 1994 and in that time, I have experienced two burglaries in two different homes. I was also at home during two failed attempts to gain access into two different homes. That works out to every 4 years I have to deal with this sort of situation, and 5 times is more than enough for any lifetime.

The primary goal at City Hall should be running a city, not pet social initiatives. The primary responsibility running a city is public safety. City Hall needs to pay attention to citizens and their demands for more and stronger police presence.

Yes! We've had our car broken into, a GPS stolen and see reports almost daily of mail and packages stolen in our neighborhood by brazen thieves who follow the mailman and delivery trucks around. We have lived on the edge of Fremont/Ballard for ten years and never had this level of break ins and fear for the safety of our homes.

I signed this petition because you almost never have too many cops around you. But realize that every neighborhood in Seattle is making this very same request - given the state of our country. So, what's SPD to do? There are some short term measures short of funding against a tidal wave that is not in the budget.
In the short term, you know that "The Magnolia Patrol" - actual security - is working and bringing results. And, it's recognized by SPD, Mag Chamber etc.
Point is, Sunday I'll be meeting with Mag Patrol's founder to use his templet to create a similar security presence in QA - he will help us. To start I'll be hosting a meeting on the Hill to discuss. This will not be a vote on whether, but to demonstrate the strategy, tactics and results of neighbors helping neighbors. Isn't that exactly why we picked The Hill?
More to follow.

When is the last time you saw an SPD vehicle patrolling Ballard ? There needs to be a precinct in Ballard !!!!! I own a business in Ballard and we have been repeatedly broken into and find human feces in our parking lot. I live in Wallingford and am now seeing the same "ballardian"demise of a once nice community. I don't feel safe walking in DAYLIGHT anymore. Mayor Murray and Mike Obrien do your JOBS !!!!!

The City of Seattle does many good things that I'm proud of, but safety is fundamental. We need to stop being one of the worst cities in the nation for property crime, and we need to ensure that investment in policing keeps pace with our neighborhoods' growth.

The homeless in Ballard have stolen all the grocery carts from QFC in Ballard. They are stealing food at the Ballard Fred Meyer and bolding eating it right in the store. The ancient motorhomes line our Ballard streets. Tarps, tents, sleeping bags are all over Ballard. Please make our Ballard be safe and clean again.

Please help us! It has become frightening to walk up and down Leary at night, and the Burke Gilman trail is covered in trash, needles, and threatening characters at every turn. Seattle is an amazing city - if we come together, we can make our neighborhoods safe again.

Ballard is nothing like the neighborhood we moved to a decade ago. There are illegal encampments throughout the neighborhood, open drug dealing and drug use, aggressive transients, trash, human waste and needles on the streets. Business owners are dealing with break-ins, theft and people passed out or shooting up in their doorways. Car break-ins and vehicle theft are happening on almost a daily basis. Yet I have been told by more than one SPD officer, as have others, that the police are under orders from city hall to stand down on any enforcement involving homeless people. This has created a growing public health and safety crisis in Ballard and other neighborhoods that is impacting everyone, including homeless folks, who are the most vulnerable. The current situation is completely unacceptable and MUST be addressed. As residents, we are demanding increased police presence and enforcement of the law. The level of lawlessness going on at the moment cannot continue.

Of particular concern is crime committed by transients living in RVs, and dumping their trash on public areas.
Something has to be done! Please.
