Make Marian Great Again

The fact is that all of you are so distracted by this "problem" that you forget what the reason is behind having uniforms. They act as a status symbol that says you are a member of the Marian Central Family. A family that holds both the faculty and student body to high standards through academics, appropriate actions, and appropriate attire. If you think those standards are outdated, then you have no business attending Marian.

These policies are not only useless; they are genuinely counterproductive. Uniform policy should exist only to discourage distraction. By enacting these new rules, Marian is only creating more stress, distractions, and meaningless issues for students to worry about. Good on Evan for taking initiative as Class President to represent his peers. Any reasonable establishment would rescind these unnecessary policies.

I am an alumni and think that is about time the students were given a little more freedom on what to wear in addition to the school uniform

I understand making it a cleaner look but this is not the way to do it and they are making Marian a school known for there family aspect feel like a prison not a school where people want to be

Controlling your students every move will not help them learn. It will cause them to rebel, it will make them hate school, and not desire to learn, God forbid someone wants to wear pink shoes, it will not hurt them, but forcing them into box, that surely will.

Marian's policies were always pretty dumb and out dated. Glad to see someone is doing something to try and make some change. I just hope the administration will listen. They have proven countless other times that they won't.

As a Marian alumn, these rules are really ridiculous. Two years ago we didn't have all these restrictions. It's unfair to start randomly imposing these rules now.

Totally agree. It's very reasonable to teach kids discipline with a dress code at a young age; however, once those rules impinge on there ability to remain comfortable in their learning environment, they have clearly gone too far. Keep the students at Marian proud of their school; don't push them to the point to where they hate their high school because of petty rules

Way to go Evan! It takes a lot to stand up for what you believe in. If worst comes to worse, contact Rockford Diocese and I'm sure they will understand your frustrations. I had an issue with a nose piercing last year and Mr. Rakers made me take it out, although more than 4 other girls st Marian had their noses peirced. Keep in mind that I wore a taper (retainer for your nose) that was nude in color where the other girls had jewlery in theirs. Marian is more like a prison than a school. They need to focus on teaching and supporting you as a kid who is trying to learn than tell students what to do and what you can and can't wear. If this petition does make it to administration I leave you with this: refrain from negatively treating the students, treat them with respect and they will treat you with respect. The Bible does says and eye for an eye. It would only make sense for administration to wear uniforms as well. As we all know, this is a uniform enforced high school and the reason for that is no one gets judged and we all look the exact same. So why doesn't administration and faculty wear uniforms? On a different note, you have to ease into the transition because the kids that have been there for three years are so used to the old uniform policy that it will take time. Most of the teachers have kids and I hope they understand your frustration of unnecessary conformity. I want to be comfortable in my learning environment and not worry whether or not I'll get a detention because my shoes are pink. It's hard to focus on school when the teachers are only focused on enforcing the uniform
