Anyone who hurts or tortures an animal is a criminal. And yes, I agree, it will escalate from animals to children and then possibly to the elderly, in other words all those who are innocent and cannot defend themselves.

As a practicing member of the veterinary community, I have seen far too many cases of animal abuse and cruelty. We must increase the penalties for these horrific crimes!!

The penalty for animal abuse needs to be serious. The fact that animals are unable to defend themselves, along with the fact that murderers often times start with animals before moving to humans shows that these crimes need to be dealt with appropriately.

This is the direction European countries have already gone and Colorado needs to get in sync and lead the nation in this respect.

Animal cruelty needs to be treated as it should be - a crime against the innocent. Stronger penalties are needed!
