Maintain Sibling Preference for Davis Dual Immersion Programs

Please keep the sibling preference. As parents we realize these programs are in high demand, but we were also promised that we would have sibling preference. We moved within our school boundaries specifically to be in the French program. We have shown commitment to the program and would like the school to also show the same commitment to the contracts we signed to keep our children in the French program. Thank you

This is a policy used by most other school districts in both the state of Utah and most other states as well For A Reason!!! This IS a family affair and requires sacrifice and support of loved ones. Please keep your promise. This policy is also seen in charter schools. Please allow siblings to remain together. I understand that those who do not get in are upset as these are amazing programs and very popular - the solution then is to add more schools/classes so as to accommodate the interest level. At the very least, please keep your promise to those already attending. Thank you

We love the Spanish immersion program and would love for our youngest who is going into pre school to be able to have the same opportunities as his brother. Please keep sibling preference!

I understand wanting to give everybody an equal opportunity, however, we were told that the siblings would receive first priority. It sounds like more classes should be added to accommodate everybody wanting to get in, not going back on your word to us families that have already signed contracts and made sacrifices so our children could be part of this program.

It would be very difficult for families if you do away with sibling preference. Three of my children are already in the program and if the last wasn't able to get in it would be very difficult.

We searched for an immersion program for our oldest daughter since our local school, Knowlton, did not offer one. We have three other children and chose the immersion program over other options, like the gifted and talented program, in large part because siblings could follow them through. We drive our two oldest kids to and from Samuel Morgan every day. We've passed on job and moving opportunities because we've committed to the program. I'll be fairly livid if at this point they go back on what they told us and my youngest two children aren't allowed to follow their older siblings through.

I am signing in support of maintaining the practice of giving preference to admitting the siblings of children already in the program. When we signed our eldest child up in the program, we were assured the practice would be maintained. We went as far as to build a new home within the boundaries of our school to honor our commitment of keeping our children in this program throughout their elementary school career. We are invested in this program through time, money, and commitment. Thank you.

You ask for a contract and commitment from myself and my children in the program but then basically force me to decide whether to continue in the program as their sibling join them at school.

I have 2 sons in the French program and 2 more children that we plan to join it when old enough. As said, participating has been a family affair (and in addition we forgo the convenience of our kids walking, busing, or carpooling to school in order to take them out of boundary to be offered this opportunity). I understand the frustration of families wanting a better chance for their child to participate in the program (it's an amazing program!), but there is no perfect "fair" opportunity as there are also schools who don't even offer immersion at all. Please at least keep your promise of giving families like ours priority for sibling enrollment, and allow siblings additional language support by being able to practice their language with each other at home.

Kids from the same family will do better if all in the same program, especially when parents have proven that they support the extra work.

We are considering a move to Davis County and the dual immersion program is incredibly attractive. However, it is disappointing to hear that the school district may not keep its commitment to siblings. Please consider the original agreement, and continue to extend it to new students in the dual immersion program.

If a policy change is to be made, parent feedback should be considered. Any change to the original agreement should be grandfathered in.
