Maintain Sibling Preference for Davis Dual Immersion Programs

We expect DSD to keep its promise whether written or verbal--and uphold its precedent of automatic sibling enrollment.

We love the immersion program and are willing to make the sacrifices necessary to support our children and our immersion school. However, if even one of our younger children were unable to attend, we would have to pull them all out to go to our local school. There's just not a reasonable way we could have children in two different elementary schools. It was impressed on us how important it is to the immersion program to keep our children in through sixth grade. We take the promise we made seriously. We love the opportunity this gives our children to be of better service to the world. It would weaken the program if we and other families had to withdraw because of a change in sibling policy. Please keep the sibling priority policy in place and allow all our children to attend Morgan's French Immersion program.

As a grandparent of a family with 3 of their 4 children in the program we are hoping the 4th child will be allowed to participate. It's been a good experience.

Please honor the automatic sibling enrollment as was promised to us before deciding to participate in the immersion program. I have two children in the chinese immersion program at Stewart Elementary and a third that will start kindergarten in two years. How sad that will be for her to be left out if DSD does not keep their promise!

We made the difficult decision to commit to the Chinese immersion program4 years ago, based partially on the belief that Davis School District was also committed to their claim that children do better with sibling involvement in the program. We strongly believe that this is true and that upholding this previous commitment to families would greatly benefit the strength of the immersion program in upcoming years as well. Thank you Davis School District for considering upholding your promise to families who are already invested in these immersion programs!

All the of my kids are in the program, in different grades. It would be heartbreaking to have a sibling unable to participate, or a single sibling with no one at home to practice with!

It would be devastating for the district to back out on it's commitment to those of us who have kept our commitment to remain in and be a proactive part of the immersion program. We currently have two children in the program and will have a third enter in the next couple of years.

My hope is that the school district will hold to their promise. I have put a lot in the chinese program and will be very disappointed to think the district will turn back on their promise and possibly deny my youngest child this opportunity that has served my other 2 children very well!! Restore my faith and trust in you again, Davis School District by keeping your promise!!

The sibling preference strengthens family commitment to the school & program. Removing it will drastically increase the attrition rate, which will have a devastating effect on the program. Please leave the sibling preference in place.

As one who does not speak my sons immersion language, I depend on the ability to have my other son enter the program so they can learn, speak, develop and succeed together. If the change needs to be made, at least consider grandfathering those of us who counted on sibling preference when we made a difficult decision and committed to an immersion program.

I don't have any younger children, so this policy change doesn't affect me. That said, I fully support this petition. If the program is popular, that will help continue it's success. I do think you need to honor the commitment you made to the families currently enrolled in the program.

We rightly teach our children in our families and our schools to principles of integrity and commitment. We cannot correctly teach a principle that we do not practice ourselves. It is imperative that DSD and the individual schools keep the commitments that they have made to the families in the immersion programs for many reasons; not least of which is to maintain the integrity and commitment of the schools and district. To me this is simply an issue of DSD and the schools keeping their word.
