I work with many, many families where mainstream education has been at best a trial and at worst a source of constant misery. Inclusive it is not!

Too many children are pushed aside and neglected. My daughter and myself are still having an on going battle as she is missing her right to an education as total lack of understanding

We are having to home educate our daughter due to lack of understanding in the 2 mainstream schools we tried leading to huge stress and anxiety for her and school refusal

My son is now a senior, he was main streamed in 5th grade. He was too advanced at that point for a self contained class but there have been so many issues being main streamed. All the way from education issues when he can't keep up with the class work. To being bullied and called stupid because he needed help. I wish they had something in between to help kids like him. This last year has been so hard on him I've actually seen regression.

100% agree. Mainstream education actually EXCLUDES many ASD children because they are so far behind the mainstream curriculum. Many have no peer group, are stressed by the number of pupils and noises such as the bell, etc.

My son has autism and struggled massively in mainstream, once in a centre that understood autism he has flourished, should be more awareness and understanding in all schools as its more and more common now

My son remains to struggle in mainstream school despite being severely and profoundly effected by ASD. A recent application for him to attend a Dept of Additional Support school was declined because he did not 'meet the criteria'. My little boy, aged only 8, cannot sleep at night purely because of the anxiety and stress school is causing him. It's heartbreaking...
